Today I popped an old crank into my modified cases and fitted the YG1 1 47.25 piston without rings to see how things matched up. It all fitted together a bit too easy for my liking (something is bound to go wrong). When Monkey Wrench and co modded the casings they added YB studs so I had to bore out the holes in the head but otherwise it all fits nicely so far. The barrel has 1.15mm skimmed off the bottom to make up for the difference in stroke. As far as I know no one else has ever tried this, with the 48mm piston I have it will be 72cc of throbbing all Yamaha power. B) :o B) :)

No engine work today, I'm waiting for a base gasket to arrive so thought I'd paint the decals on the sidepanels instead.

I've made them out of all things before but on this one where the cases have been welded they have a few pin holes in the surface and I want to make sure I don't get leaks, also I want to use the gasket as a template to modify the cases. :D

Eventually got around to sorting the tank today, decided to go with the pinstripes in the end.

To tidy up another loose end I made up a clip to secure the headlamp glass and hooked up the battery, everything works so far :) To celebrate I wheeled it out into the workshop again for a few pics, note Brakedusts engine still hanging in there :)

The engine in there is a late 60s Yamaha YL1, 100cc twin belongs to a guy off the UK site he's fitting it in his special, I just left it in there to stop it cluttering up the bench, going to do a bit of port work on it for him.

I have a chrome air filter I will run in it.

Thought I might as well get on with the engine, haven't had a huge ammount of time but managed to grind out the crankcases to match up with the YG1 ports. Still looking for another YG1 barrel if anyones got one.

I've reshaped the inlet in the casing oversize as I'm running a big carb, this will take up to a 22mm now. I've had the edge welded and then ground it back to get a nice smooth flow over the crank and angled the inlet upwards.Crankcase volume isn't too much of a concern because I've got one of the stuffed cranks from Holland they really are a thing of beauty :D and apparently good for about 18000rpm :o though I've got no intention of testing that out.
