Brighton Weekend Itinerary

Here's a list of daytime ride outs we've arranged for the Brighton weekend, obviously individuals can join in as much or as little as they like. Nothing is compulsory  Thanks go to fs1ephil who has arranged the discounts on the places we intend to visit Friday and Saturday.

Friday

AM A short local ride to include Ditchling Beacon and a fuel stop ready for the afternoon.

PM Leave campsite at 1pm for a ride to Newhaven Fort where it has been arranged for us to park the bikes within the fort (£2.00 entry fee).

Saturday

First thing A short trip to the fuel station for those that need it and return to the camp site.

Leave camp site at 10:30 for a ride to Bentley Wildlife and Motor Museum (£6.50 entry) where it has been arranged for us to park in the grounds. We will also get 10% discount in the tea rooms.

Return via Eastbourne and the coast road getting back to the camp site around 4pm when the bike should be lined up for the trophy voting. (no marks will be deducted for filth attributable to the days ride )

Sunday

Leave camp site for Bolney Bike Shop at about 9:00 via the fuel station at Hassocks. It's about 9 miles.

Leave Bolney at 10:30 for the main ride via Devils Dyke to Brighton Sea Front. Two groups will leave Bolney. The first group will suit well sorted fizzies and bigger bikes. The second group will follow on immediately after the first, but will travel at a slightly slower pace.

The two groups will follow the same route via Cowfold, Henfield and Woodmancote to the car park at the Devils Dyke Viewpoint. After a stop for an Ice cream, both groups will now leave together for the short run to Brighton.

This is where we tend to get split up a bit in traffic, so its useful if everyone has an idea of the route shown in the map below. At the A27 junction go straight on at the first roundabout then at the second roundabout take the 3rd exit signposted 'Hove' (not Brighton) down King George VI Avenue. Follow this road all the way past Portslade Station to the T junction opposite the Basin (Harbour). This is the start of the sea front road although at this point it's called Kingsway.

At the T junction turn left towards Brighton Pier. This road is fairly narrow at first but soon widens and there should be an opportunity for the leaders to stop and wait for the whole pack to gather for the ride down the Sea Front.

Just after the Pier there is a small roundabout at the entrance to Madeira Drive. Madeira Drive will almost certainly be blocked off again to us due to the MIni event, so we have two choices here.We can continue east towards the Marina and stop at the Rodean Cafe like last year or we can turn back at the roundabout and park on the Sea Front somewhere. I believe the Sea Front is what most will prefer and it has been suggested that bikes can park just west of the Pier. We will check this out earlier during the weekend and let everyone know on or before the day.

From the Rodean Cafe or the Pier it is only a relatively short ride (9 miles) back to the camp site.
